Dr. Jeff Church is an Instructional Technology Consultant for the Center for Academic Excellence. His primary responsibilities are to research and develop new teaching technologies and to help faculty integrate these technologies into their teaching and learning.
Jeff holds a B.S. and an M.A. in Technology from Appalachian State University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from East Tennessee State University. Dr. Church often tests new teaching technology in his classes and believes that spending some time in the classroom is crucial to his research. He has been incorporating the use of internet based tools into his own courses since 1994. His love of teaching and teaching with technology led to requests that he conduct workshops for faculty on how to build class websites. These workshops were so successful that a new position was created for him in Faculty Development and, from that, grew the Center For Academic Excellence.
Jeff's current projects include student response systems (Polleverywhere), AsULearn development and administration, streaming media (Kaltura), smart classroom technology (lightboards), copyright, and web conferencing (Zoom). He is also the lead teaching technology support person for the college of Arts and Sciences for the departments of:
- Chemistry & Fermentation Sciences
- Computer Science
- Geography & Planning
