Garry Powell is the Manager of Classroom Support joining the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) at Appalachian State University on November 27, 2019. He holds a Bachelor of Business Science Degree in Organizational Management and Development from Lees McRae College.
Garry started at Appalachian State University in 2005 as a TV Engineer, then became an IT Manager in Technology Support Services in 2008 working under Tom Van Gilder who was at the time the Director of IT Support Services. He and his team assisted in making Tom’s initiative to standardize Smart Classroom Technology across the entire campus come to fruition.
Garry has over 30 years of customer service experience both in Corporate America and Higher Education.
As the manager of Classroom Support, he and his team are responsible for the daily support of classroom technology used by the faculty for student instruction across campus. His team of both staff and student employees are charged with resolving any technology issue that interrupts classroom instruction within 10 minutes or less. Garry and his team are also responsible for classroom design, installation, programming, and equipment refresh cycles.
Garry enjoys the great outdoors, camping and spending time with his family.
