Since pivoting online in the spring of 2020, Academic Affairs has provided resources aimed at supporting faculty with the design and development of high-quality online courses. The Online Teaching Excellence Institute (OTEI) was developed to provide that support to faculty.
The first cohorts of the OTEI launched in 2020, resulting in two cohorts of faculty participating in a structured professional development institute experience providing them the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to develop engaging and interactive courses. With continued support from the Provost and the Deans we held the third OTEI cohort this past summer and to date, we've helped over 160 faculty design/redesign over 100 courses.
The majority of professional development initiatives targeted quality online course development focus on course design and development processes. The OTEI addresses both the course design and the course facilitation process including inclusive and engaging approaches to facilitating online learning. The goal in doing so was to support faculty with developing courses grounded in "humanized" approaches to facilitating engaged learning.
We hope this institute engages faculty in a reflective, engaging, and collaborative experience to develop their online courses. The next offering of the OTEI is scheduled for summer 2022.
