Welcome back to a new year that is not 2020, even if it still has its challenges professionally and sociopolitically. We at the CAE would like to take a moment to acknowledge all that you, our beloved faculty, staff and administrators, have overcome in the last nine months. The world shifted under your feet almost a year ago, and you responded with grace under pressure, and continue to. We have watched you take us up on all of our large and small offerings and learn, learn, learn...and now we think we're seeing a bit more confidence and ease with your online teaching, even if it is not your first choice of modalities.
Not to toot our own horn, but in the words of one faculty member, the work she has done with us “gave me a good base to launch even haltingly into what feels like a ‘brave new world’ for me that is steadily becoming more comfortable and less intimidating.” If you've taken advantage of some of our offerings, you've learned it is doable to stay connected with students and perhaps even to grow your teaching joy as you grow your online teaching skills. You are teaching each other as much as we are teaching you, and for that we’re grateful, as we are a small team. We especially hope you're enjoying your more panic-proof snow days.
As you may already know, we've been adding sweet new technologies for you like Kaltura, Hypothesis, Remind, and many others, so we hope you know that we listen and care. Check out our professional development offerings on those as we’re doing a lot -- more of which is now taught by you these days, a delight to see. Keep trying things and keep asking for help until you find your sweet spot. But don’t forget to be gentle with yourselves and your students as you forge ahead. Cheers!
