The Center for Academic Excellence will be launching the Online Teaching Academy, a self-paced course that covers online teaching strategies, including how-to tutorials and how to create and find content, as well as explores various tools and technologies for teaching online. Participants in this course have the option of completing various assignments related to the topics presented and feedback can be provided if needed. Compared to our AsULearn Essentials and Beyond course, the Online Teaching Academy can be started at any time and completed at your own pace. Its focus is on quality online teaching, rather than the use and navigation of AsULearn.
The Online Teaching Academy was based on a Creative Commons course created by Indiana University and modified during the pandemic to include an incredible amount of resources about teaching and designing online courses that are effective and engaging. In addition, the course stays open so these resources and information are available to participants whenever needed. The course allows faculty to experience and understand online learning from a students’ perspective and gives them the opportunity to adjust their course in a way that best suits their students’ needs.
The Online Teaching Academy provides another option for faculty wanting to explore course resources and who aren’t already registered for OTEI or Quality Matters workshops. It is available to all faculty, including adjuncts. The course will be offered through the Summer and Fall 2022 sessions. Faculty can self-enroll here and complete the program at their own pace.
