Teaching Innovation

A primary goal for CAE is to cultivate and support a vibrant university culture that values excellence in teaching and learning. Beyond administering learning tools, we offer technical and pedagogical support to help instructors use these tools effectively.

Instructional needs

We collaborate with faculty on solutions for their instructional needs.

Technology and research

We participate in campus-wide discussions on instructional technology and research support.

Programs and services

We provide programs and services to meet campus needs related to instructional design, learning technologies, learning communities and course redesign.

Excellence in Teaching

The Board of Governors Excellence in Teaching Award was created in 1993 to encourage, identify, recognize, reward, and support good teaching by faculty of the University of North Carolina system. Faculty members of any of the 17 institutions of the University of North Carolina System are eligible.

Sustained, distinguished, and superb achievement in university public service and outreach, and contributions to improving the quality of life of the citizens of North Carolina.

The creativity and impact of a nominee's achievements are of a magnitude that greatly exceeds the normal accomplishments of a productive faculty.

In the spirit of CAE's goal to promote the growth of excellence in teaching and learning, we feel it is important to recognize members of the Appalachian community who are actively participating in this culture. View current and past winners of the Board of Governors Excellence in Teaching Award.
