Inclusive and Effective Online Lecturing

Date(s):
Friday, January 15, 2021 - 10:00am to 11:30am
Location:
Online

There's no worse feeling than staring out at a sea of black boxes, wondering whether anything you're saying matters at all. In this workshop, we'll discuss aspects of synchronous online lectures that invite or exclude students with a variety of backgrounds and identities from engaging with our online teaching. Using a video of the "Worst Lecture Ever," we'll work together to determine which lecture choices are particularly exclusionary--might you be unintentionally committing some of these teaching errors? Then, we'll connect our observations to the literature on inclusive teaching, ending with a better understanding of specific actions we can take to make sure our online lectures lead to maximal engagement and learning for all.
