Teaching Quality Framework Grant (Feburary - May 2023) 

During the spring semester, CETLSS provided over $10,000 to support groups of faculty members working together on teaching quality at the program, department or college level. 

Projects Included: 

  • Department of Counseling, Family Therapy, and Higher Education:  Evaluating Teaching using the Teaching Quality Framework 
    • Promotion & Tenure recommendations and annual review guidelines for assessing teaching quality
  • Appalachian State Veterinary Technology ProgramWellbeing Framework Assessment Phase I
    • A logic model and assessment plan for evaluating the interaction between teaching and student wellbeing
    • As a follow-up, in 2023-2024, the program is working with TASSL to collect and analyze the data from the model/plan
  • Department of Communication: Self-Reflection Guide for Annual Reviews 
    • A draft guide to serve as a complement to or replacement for existing annual review procedures regarding teaching quality

"Our Online" Grant (Feburary - May 2023) 
From Feburary to May, CETLSS facilitated an opportunity to 5 different groups of faculty from various programs or departments across campus. Funding over $20,000 to design the pedagogical aspects of a new online program, along side our team of highly-trained Instructional Design Specialists. 


Mountaineer Mentoring Innovation Grant  (Feburary - May 2023)

Co-sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning for Student Success (CETLSS) and ADVANCE AppalachianThe purpose of the Mountaineer Mentoring Innovation Grants was to incentivize and recognize innovative approaches to faculty career support and mentorship at Appalachian State University. Over $10,000 in funding were granted to faculty groups and/or units for developing programs that support faculty across the career lifeline, particularly pre-tenure faculty. 

Incentive Ideas Included:

  • New or significantly revised departmental or cross-departmental mentoring programs
  • Action learning projects co-created by a mentor/mentee pair or a mutual mentoring group
  • Support for sharing innovative mentoring approaches at professional conferences
  • New ideas for cultivating a mentoring culture on campus
